Last week LINGVOBALT team was invited to take part at the international conference “Translation, Ideology, Ethics: Response and Credibility” organised by the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies of Vilnius University. The conference was held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies and was focused on interrelation between translation, ideology and ethics. It also included the international workshop on Ethics in the Era of Machine Translation.

Together with other conference attendees we participated in a number of sessions analysing how ideologies affect the field of translation, how translation influences our positions and values, how it forms our perception of ourselves and others, how the notion of translation ethics is changing, what translator’s ethical choices are in crisis situations and what skills translators need to acquire to assume a more active role of a communication moderator.

Translation company LINGVOBALT has been cooperating with the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies for already more than 10 years, accepting students for traineeships, giving lectures on the specifics of translators’ work, as well as participating in the seminars, workshops and other events organized by Vilnius University. Prof. Dr. Nijolė Maskaliūnienė, Head of the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies, thanks LINGVOBALT for being a sponsor of this great event and hopes to continue and strengthen cooperation.
